My i-phone dream Part 1
My mobile phone contract has recently expired and with the i-phone having recently been released in Australia I thought it a great opportunity to get an i-phone. Ever since they came out in the States a year ago I wanted one.
So for the past week I have been trying to purchase an i-phone from Telstra. It seems that they are very hard to come by and I have had great difficulty trying to get one. I’m starting to think they are like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow – that they don’t actually exist.
When I first made enquiries about getting one I was told that they had sold out – understandable, so I waited until last week when they had more stock in. I went into the Telstra Shop at Centrepoint on Thursday to get connected. The guy that I spoke to said that the phone was not available on a business plan and that I would have to go on a consumer plan to get the i-phone. I told him I’d come back later. It seemed weird to me that the i-phone is basically a mobile business gadget and is not available on a business plan, so I made some further investigations on google and it appeared that the iphone is available on business plans.
So Friday morning I called the Telstra mobile business line to get official clarification. The guy I spoke to said that the iphone is available on specific i-phone business plans, one of which is a $40 per month plan with 10MB of downloads included. Or you could pay $50 per month and get 150MB of downloads. I’ll probably get connected on that $40 plan seeing as though I don’t spend my full $60 which is included in my current plan.
After speaking to the guy on the phone I went back to the Telstra Shop at Centrepoint on Friday and was again told that the i-phone doesn’t come on a business plan. I said ‘Why don’t you ring the business mobile customer service number and they’ll tell you it is available on a business plan’. So the guy called the number in front of me and got a message saying ‘We are open for businss from 8am to 5pm. Please call back during a week day’! It was 4:50 on a Friday for crying out loud – they had all packed up, turned off their phones and gone home! I said to the guy “What slackers. I’ve got to get a ‘f’ing job at the Telstra call centre!’.
Today I called the business mobile customer service line again and asked him just where on earth can one get an iphone on a business plan. Apparently there are only certain Telstra shops offering the iphone on business plans. So he said I need to go to the Telstra ‘T Life’ store on King Street. I thought I’d call the store just to make sure – I got a really helpful guy, Ganesh, who said that I could come into the store and ask for him personally. So I rocked up to the store this afternoon to get myself signed up to an i-phone plan and low and behold I suddenly remembered that I left my drivers licence on the coffee table at home after coming back from a ride on my motorbike – and they won’t hook anyone up to a plan without a drivers licence!!!!! Arrghhh I felt so stupid!. I swear, I am just not meant to get this freakin iphone. Let’s see if I manage to get one tomorrow – or will there be some other stupid reason preventing me from reaching my i-phone dream!
