This morning Tim found out that the cleaning company he works for is no longer in existence. Apparently the company owes the Tax Office $200,000. It seems they had enough of the guy dodging taxes and they forced the company to wind up and a liquidator has been appointed. Unfortunately for Tim, for the last two years he had not been paid his compulsory 9% superannuation and with the company now in liquidation it is now unlikely that he will ever see it. He had been fighting his boss to get the superannuation and had lodged a complaint with the Taxation Office, but it all came to a head today when out of the blue the Taxation Office told him that the company had a liquidator appointed. Tim got in touch with the liquidators and apparently they have been to his house. The liquidator guy said that he has a couple of Mercedes cars in the drive way and the house is super flash. The liquidator guy referred to the boss as a ‘real scumbag’. Apparently the boss has gone to ground and is not answering calls or answering his door. When the liquidator guy went to the house he checked the mailbox and there was a letter of demand there from some company that is owed money by the boss. I’m not sure there’ll be that much to go around after the government gets paid.

Sadly, this isn’t the first time that this has happened to Tim. 8 years ago he was working for an IT company which went out of business. In that case, he wasn’t paid his last pay cheque and he missed out on thousands of dollars of superannuation payments. Let’s hope he gets this job with Australia Post!
