A little about us
My name is Sarah and of course my boyfriend’s name is Tim. We’ve been together for about 8 years. I’m a night Document Production Operator (a fancy name for a typist) at a big law firm in Sydney. I also have my own company which I work on at home during the day. Tim works as a Cleaner and also buys and sells antiques and collectables with his father as a little extra money on the side. He is currently in the process of hopefully securing a job with Australia Post as a postman. We live in the southern suburbs of Sydney in a rented 2 bedroom house. No dogs. No children. We have a pretty good life.
We both generally like staying in either doing our respective ‘work at home’ things or watching TV or having a couple of drinks on a Saturday evening while watching the Wallabies play in the rugby union. My favourite thing is watching the cricket with a beer in the summer when the cricket is on TV. I love going to the cricket too. Neither of us are particularly sporty people. We just like watching other people play it J Tim’s favourite thing is to collect vintage Australian pottery (pre-1950s pottery in particular). Here is a little snap shot of his collection.
Personally, I think some of the pieces are lovely and very deco looking. What do you think?
He’s thinking of starting a blog on the subject of Austrailan pottery. I’ll keep you posted on how that goes. He meets about once a month with a group of ladies who share the same passion for Australian pottery. I go along with him, even though I don’t share the same enthusiasm for pottery in general as the others I *think* I do know a lovely piece of pottery when I see it.
Since I have been living with Tim I have started a few collections of certain items for myself. The first is a small collection of 1950’s lucite plastic handbags. The second is a collection of Australian postcards. In particular I like to collect 1900’s Aboriginal postcards. Postcards are good to collect because they are reasonably cheap and they don’t cost much for ebay sellers to send in the mail.
The third collection that I have is a small collection of vintage sewing patterns. What draws me to these is the illustrations on the front of the envelopes that they come in.
The fourth collection that I recently started is a collection of 1950s Tupperware containers and Tupperware cataloguess. I really like these Tupperware cataloguess that I recently purchased on ebay. I love the illustrations. They are just so kitschy – from a time when all decent wives were expected to stay at home and clean the house and make the dinner ready for when the husband came home from work – I just find that whole notion so strange and funny (completely different to how things actually are at our house where Tim does most of the cooking, although I do most of the cleaning). Here is my (meagre) Tupperware collection:
